The School is anticipated to be a wonderful new facility for SFU's Contemporary Arts program at the Vancouver campus. A key component of a new mixed-use complex on the historic Woodward's site, the School is part of a massive strategy to transform and revitalize Vancouver's downtown east side community.
Opening in 2009, the 11,845-square metre facility will occupy five storeys of the new building and include public spaces, performance venues, teaching studios, a 400-seat theatre, a multimedia lounge and lab for new media.

SFU retained ravendesign.ca from the inception of the project to use our insight and expertise to develop complete exterior identity, interior & way-finding systems along with integrated donor signage. Shown here is a selection of preliminary design studies focusing on the nighttime character of the school. These display effects would be achieved by numerous kinetic images projected onto large panels of transparent stretched metal mesh.
